Make Your Own Trail Mix

This is our current favorite snack! Much better than snacking on chips! I admit we used to always buy bags of chips every grocery run. Very bad. So I love that trail mix is such a great alternative to chips! It’s healthy and mixing your own is fun because you get to choose which stuff to include. You can have it for breakfast, mid-day snack, movie-time snack or whenever you want to munch on something. 🙂 A nice mix includes 2-3 kinds of nuts, 2 kinds of fruit and a sweet special treat, usually chocolate!. So for our first mix, I included whole almonds, cashew, macadamia nuts, raisins, dried cranberries and M&Ms.

I’m excited to make more! Here’s a list of what I have in mind to include for the next batches:

  • Pistachios
  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Choco balls
  • Choco chips
  • Mini pretzels
  • Mini wafers
  • Gummy bears/worms (Ren’s special request!)
  • Cereal honey graham ohs
  • Chocolate raisins
  • Golden raisins
  • Dried fruits: cherry, papaya, mango
  • Granola

While there are really no rules to what you want to put in your trail mix, it’s best to limit the sweet components to keep this a healthy snack. Also, trail mixes are generally calorie dense so you dont want to binge on them, unless of course you are going on a trail hike and need the energy boost! As always, everything in moderation!
